Akshay produced Breakaway in Hollywood : Completing the first Indo-Canadian production Breakaway, starring Vinay Virmani, Rob Lowe, Russell Peters, Camilla Belle, Noureen DeWulf and Anupam Kher, Akshay Kumar has become the first B-Town producer to truly aim for Hollywood. As the producer of the film, Akshay has made all efforts to ensure that the film has mass appeal. The film has music videos with hip-hop stars Ludacris, Drake and Akshay himself, with the music being scored by his desired collaborators RDB (Rhythm Dhol Bass). Akki said, "The film is ready for a Hollywood release in September 30. Alliance Atlantis, one of the world`s largest distributors, will pick up the film — their first film by an Indian producer. We are treating it like a Hollywood release, with more than 3,500 prints. It`s a giant step for us, as an Indian film is trying to break into Hollywood. It will also be the curtain raiser at the Toronto Film Festival on September 10 this year." As the international release will be titled ‘Breakaway,’ the Indian version will be named ‘Speedy Singh.’ Apart from producing the film, Akshay will also make a guest appearance in the film. The film is very close to Akki’s heart and he is gaga about the story. "‘Breakaway’ is a touching story about a young Indian ice hockey player who wants to get into the big league,” briefed Akshay. "I am introducing Vinay Virmani, who is a very good ice hockey player in real life as well. The film is about an Indian family wanting to break the stranglehold the Whites have abroad in sports,” ended the actor.

"There were certain portions that were to be completed and Akshay was to fly to the US for the dubbing. But as he was in London shooting for Housefull 2, the makers of the film agreed to fly down to the UK with the required portions.” Vikram Malhotra, COO of Viacom 18, explained to a tabloid that the actor finished dubbing in India, but additional lines came up. "Since it was an important part and priority, was high, Akshay had to fly down to London to finish it at the mandated facility for the film. Everything has now been completed and we are delighted with the results," Malhotra said. Akki’s son Aarav is a huge fan of ‘Transformers’ series.
